2008 Emmy Nominations Announced
Nominations for the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced this morning.
The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences gave 23 nominations to HBO's John Adams, while NBC's 30 Rock received the second most nominations with 17, including one for Outstanding Comedy Series. Also nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series were Curb Your Enthusiasm, Entourage, The Office, and Two and a Half Men.
Noticeably absent from the list of nominees was last year's Best Supporting Actress in a Drama winner, Katherine Heigl of Grey's Anatomy. Heigl withdrew her name from consideration for an Emmy this year after she felt her character, Izzie Stevens, did not receive adequate development in the latest season of the ABC drama.
Leading the way for drama nominations was AMC's series, Mad Men, having picked up 16 nominations. Also nominated for Outstanding Drama Series were Boston Legal, Damages, Dexter, House, and Lost.
Reality television hosts are also expected to be honored with a new category at the awards ceremony this year. Nominees for the new category are Ryan Seacrest, Tom Bergeron, Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, and Jeff Probst.
This year's ceremony will take place September 21, live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.
