Hayek Ends Engagement

Salma Hayek has called off her engagement to billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault.

Actress Salma Hayek and businessman Francois-Henri Pinault have cancelled their engagement, Yahoo News and Reuters report.

Hayek's spokeswoman Cari Ross confirmed the news, stating, "We are sad to announce the engagement of Salma Hayek and Francois-Henri Pinault has been canceled." She added that the actress and her former fiance would be making no further comments to the media about the end of the engagement.

Hayek and Pinault announced their plans to marry last year. Just a few months later, 41-year-old Hayek and 46-year-old Pinault became parents with the birth of their daughter Valentina, in September.

Mexican-born Hayek is best known as an actress. She has starred in such films as 2002's Oscar-nominated Frida, a role for which she received a Best Actress Academy Award nomination. She is also the executive producer of ABC's popular television comedy, Ugly Betty. Hayek has appeared on the show several times as a guest star.

Pinault is the head of a French holding company that owns, among other retail shops and luxury brands, Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent.

The press-shy couple was last seen together publicly in February at a Madonna-hosted Gucci store opening in New York that also served as a benefit for her Raising Malawi Foundation.
