Curtains Close on "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog"
It seemed to end before it even began. As the final act of "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" was released on Saturday, the three part Internet musical miniseries came to what seemed a premature close.
The series is based on the premise of a lovesick evil villain, Dr. Horrible, and his dream of being accepted to the Evil League of Evil, while simultaneously steering clear of Captain Hammer, his arch nemesis.
Neil Patrick Harris delivers an outstanding performance as Dr. Horrible in this epic three-parter, and each of the 15-minute installments is engaging from start to finish. The show has that same homemade superhero feel that we experienced in Trey Parker's Orgazmo, adding to the series' unique comedic blend.
Sharing the spotlight with NPH is Nathan Fillion, who takes on the hilarious role of Captain Hammer. Hammer, who is best described as Johnny Bravo with a cape (except actually without a cape), follows his ego wherever it drags him, even if that means insulting homeless people to the tune of feel-good confidence booster "Everyone's a Hero in Their Own Way (In Their Own Not That Heroic Way)."
The final act is the perfect end to this strange, yet wonderful story, and it would be hard to praise it further without spoiling the plot. You really just have to watch it, now. Meanwhile, I wish there could be more, but according to IGN.com, the miniseries will soon be released on DVD, complete with Horrible extras and all. Who knows, maybe there is more Dr. Horrible to come yet.
