Miley Cyrus Regrets Vanity Fair Shoot

As her "Breakout" album approaches, Miley Cyrus ties up some loose ends.

As Miley Cyrus prepares for the release of her new album, Breakout, she admits that the controversial Vanity Fair photo shoot was a mistake.

The photographs that surfaced in April of this year were the product of a Vanity Fair shoot with renowned portrait photographer Annie Leibovitz. One photo depicted the semi-nude Hannah Montana star wrapped in a silk sheet, with hair disshelved, wearing red lipstick.

"I was working with a big magazine just trying to go with what they were saying," Cyrus told ABC's Good Morning America. "Anyone who was 15 years old can't say they haven't made a mistake. So I think it's just normal."

The controversy is reminiscent of Nickelodeon's December crisis, when Zoey 101 star Jamie Lynn Spears declared that she was pregnant, aged 16 at the time.

But how much can Miley really be blamed for what happened? "I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be 'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed," said Miley in a statement reported by TIME. "I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about."

The result of the shoot was unfortunate, however, if we can give Miley credit for anything, it is her ability to get right back to work. Cyrus is already back in the spotlight promoting Breakout, her first album released under her real name, reported ABC News. The album is expected to be more personal than her previous projects, and with the teen star also hard at work on a new book, there's no denying that Miley Cyrus is willing to put in the hours.
