Coogan and Chan Have Accent Games
23-Jul-2008
Written by: Angela P. Cobb

Chan gets laughs for his “posh” English impressions.

Action star Jackie Chan had a great time appearing in 2004’s Around the World in 80 Days because he and costar Steve Coogan enjoyed poking fun at one another, WENN reports.

Chan and Coogan would entertain themselves during breaks in filming by making fun of and imitating each other’s accents. Each would try to impersonate a variety of different accents, much to the joy of the film crew, who was in stitches.

Also, Chan admits that he had loads of fun when it came to Coogan’s posh English accent. “Every day with Coogan, I always make fun of him. ‘Would you like caaarp orf teeeeea?’ ‘Well, orf coooooourse,’” Chan explains.

It was an educational experience at best. “He always teaches me English,” Chan says of Coogan. “One day the director says, ‘Cut! Jackie, speak English.’ And I say, ‘I am speaking English.’ He says, ‘No, you have to speak Jackie Chan English, not posh British English.’”
