Gossip Girl Returning in September
23-Jul-2008
Written by: Marshall Burns
Gossip Girl will return in September among the petitions against it by parents and those that disapprove of its content.
People are talking now because of the CW television show, Gossip Girl. At least now it will get people talking. The network’s new campaign for the new season of the prep-school teen soap will do even more to keep people talking, reported the Associated Press.
The second season is to begin on September 1, after the new promotion begins in August to put viewers in the mood. The part that is different this time is the racy ads that use language from the criticism that the show gets for being as racy as it is, reported AP. There was a preview issued last week by mistake putting an image of Gossip Girl characters coupled.
Serena van der Woodsen, played by Blake Lively, is in the picture with her eyes closed as though in rapture with mouth open, with a friend nuzzled against her neck. The suggestion within the image of the two getting started earned the headline of “Every Parent’s Nightmare” when it found itself on the Boston Herald, reported AP.
There are other moments that find themselves on the new Gossip Girl ads with headlines of “A Nasty Piece of Work,” as well as “Mind-Blowingly Inappropriate.” The final phrase was borrowed from the Parents Television Council, which took shots at the content on the show since its premiere. PTC director, Melissa Henson, told AP, “I think it reeks of desperation, if they have to position themselves as so edgy and controversial that they’ve been called out by us.”
For the show's return after its hiatus during the writers’ strike, the station put out ads with the headline, “OMFG,” that went along with other racy images. This got people talking as well. The campaign will continue against the show and it shall continue with the hope of being greeted in September.
