J. K. Rowling Sells Fairy Tales
Following the final installment in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, author J. K. Rowling has turned her attention to a book of fairy tales.
The Children's High Level Group, a charity founded by Rowling, will publish a new book of fairy tales, reported the New York Times.
The book, titled The Tales of Beedle the Bard, which was briefly mentioned in the most recent Harry Potter installment, will be written and illustrated by Rowling herself. The book is expected to be published in three editions, and will be printed and distributed by Amazon, Bloomsbury and Scholastic.
According to LookToTheStars.org, a site devoted to celebrity charity work, Rowling hand-wrote seven copies of the book, and after giving away six copies as gifts, she announced that the last remaining original would be available solely via auction.
As reported by the Times, the charity edition was auctioned off at Sotheby's in London last December. The auction came to a close with Amazon bidding an unbelievable $4 million for the "wizarding fairy tales" that were expected to cash in no more than $100,000, reported LookToTheStars.org.
All profits from the upcoming children's book will go directly to the author's charity, with the total amount expected to be around $8 million.
The Tales of Beedle the Bard will go on sale on December 4.
