Madonna Unveils Film in Michigan

The star screened her newest film, "I Am Because We Are."

Pop sensation Madonna arrived in Traverse City, Mich., on Saturday for the Traverse City Film Festival, reported the Associated Press. The star was there to unveil her newest film, I Am Because We Are, reportedly one of the highlights of the festival.

"It's great bringing my movie to a place that I feel familiar," Madonna announced to the audience. "Not like the Cannes Film Festival, where nobody's speaking English, or the Tribeca Film Festival, where no one sits down."

Before the screening of the film, Madonna was joined on stage by fellow Michigan native, and controversial filmmaker, Michael Moore, a co-founder of the event.

The film centers on orphans in Malawi, the African country from which the star adopted a son.

"She has such an incredible heart and such a generous spirit," Moore said of Madonna. "She does so much out of the glare of the lights to make the world a better place."

In return, the singer had only praise for Moore.

"There aren't a lot of role models for us in the world, or people we can look up to," she said. "People who are not afraid to stick their neck out, people who are not afraid to stand up for things and be unpopular, to go against the grain, think outside the box." She added: "And we need, and I need, Michael Moore in my life."

Madonna arrived at the festival sans husband Guy Ritchie, however, she was joined by Lourdes, her 11-year-old daughter, as well as I Am Because We Are director Nathan Rissman.
