McCain Chills with Daddy Yankee

McCain discusses immigration and education with the Latin celebrity.

On Friday evening, Senator John McCain made an appearance at Country First, the free concert where popular country musician John Rich unveiled his tribute song to the presidential candidate, titled "Raising McCain."

The concert, sponsored by the Florida Republican Party, was not a particularly unusual venue for a visit from the Arizona senator. However, after McCain returned to Washington Saturday, he made arrangements to rendezvous with reggaeton veteran Daddy Yankee, reported the Los Angeles Times. Yankee, a superstar in the Latin pop world, is best known for his song, "Gasolina."

The move came as a bit of a surprise, especially with McCain using his latest campaign advertisement to criticize Barack Obama's alleged celebrity ambitions.

According to Hessy Fernandez, McCain's spokeswoman, the two initially met after both being named amongst Time magazine's "100 Most Influential People of 2006." Fernandez, who also handles the McCain campaign's Latino media relations, said that the men spoke about subjects ranging from immigration to education, reported the Los Angeles Times. "It goes to show that John McCain is someone who can appeal to anybody," she said.
