Obama Attacks McCain over Oil Company Donations to His Campaign

Democrat tries to get message across about how oil companies donating to McCain are an indication that he is in their pocket.

In a campaign advertisement for Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama that was aired for the first time earlier today, his campaign expressed its concern over the fact that big oil companies have contributed over $2 million to John McCain's presidential campaign.

The advertisement claims that after current President George W. Bush has been in the pocket of major oil companies throughout his eight year tenure in office, our nation cannot afford to have this practice continue.

The advertisement is the first effort of Obama's campaign to reveal the presidential nominee's week-long campaign to address the astoundingly high gas prices and heating costs in this country. The Democrat has given a name to this week's agenda; it is entitled, "energy week."

The Washington Post is reporting that the Republican candidate has received approximately $1.1 million from major oil companies in June alone, with a large portion of those donations coming in following his public endorsement to lift the ban on offshore drilling.

Though Obama has been given contributions from gas industry executives as well, he has received less than half the amount of money that his Republican opponent has received.
