Cook Teams Up with Cavallo on New Album

The American Idol star isn't taking any chances.

David Cook, the winner of American Idol, has teamed up with Grammy-winning producer Rob Cavallo, just three months prior to the release of his upcoming album.

Cavallo, who frequently produces for Green Day, has also worked with the likes of Kid Rock, My Chemical Romance, Eric Clapton, the Goo Goo Dolls and the Dave Matthews Band.

According to E! Online, this fall will serve as an extension of Idol competition as both Cook and American Idol runner-up David Archuleta plan to release their solo debuts. In fact, both artists are expected to release their respective albums on exactly the same day!

That being said, it is no wonder why Cook has decided to wheel in the big guns. But Cavallo will not be the first to lend a hand to the Idol champion, with Cook already boasting collaborations with Collective Soul's Ed Roland and Our Lady Peace's Raine Maida.

Cook, who is currently aboard the American Idols Live! Tour, has been doing some recording in between stops, reported E! Online, and last month the artist told Billboard magazine that the album was well on its way. "I think we've for sure got 7 songs we're tracking," Cook said. "We're gonna try to get to around 20 I think, and work it out from there."

The tour is schedule to end on September 13, leaving Cook two months to complete the album.
