Morgan Freeman Rolls Car
Actor Morgan Freeman was airlifted to a Memphis hospital late Sunday evening after rolling his car on a rural Mississippi highway.
According to E! Online, Freeman, who stars in The Dark Knight, was heading East on State Highway 32 in Ruleville, when he lost control of the car and overcorrected, causing the vehicle to roll a number of times before finally coming to a halt.
The Oscar-winning actor was not alone in the car. In the passenger seat was Demaris Meyer, the owner of the 1997 Nissan Maxima, reported E! Online.
When rescue crews arrived, they needed the Jaws of Life to free the pair. The car had rolled several times but still managed to stop right-way up. Luckily, both were wearing seatbelts. Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Ben Williams told E! Online that there were no signs to indicate that alcohol was involved.
Freeman, 71, and Meyer, 48, were taken by chopper to Memphis's Regional Medical Center which lies about 90 miles North of where the accident occurred.
But before being rushed off the scene, Freeman was apparently conscious and seemed to have an understanding of what was going on, even cracking jokes, Williams told E! Online. Clay McFerrin, an onlooker at the scene, told the Associated Press that when people started pulling out their camera phones, Freeman joked, saying "no freebies, no freebies."
