Mary J. Blige to Be Sued for $2 Million by Drama Family Entertainment
According to the BBC, R&B singer Mary J. Blige is being sued for $2 million by Drama Family Entertainment, a U.S. music production company, for allegedly stealing a song that she used on her latest album.
Drama Family Entertainment claims that its copyright was infringed on the song, "Work That," from her Growing Pains album.
The lawsuit asserts that the song, which was featured on an iPod commercial, was created by producer Theron Feemster who worked for the company.
Drama Family Entertainment claims the track was taken from its catalogue of songs.
Allegedly, the company hired Feemster to record hits for their own artists. Instead, he gave tracks to the Grammy-winning singer.
Company lawyer Brian Caplan stated that Drama Family Entertainment "owned the music yet the music was used without permission in a Mary J. Blige release recording."
Growing Pains, which is Blige's eighth studio album, was released last year.
