Dance Show Crowns America's Favorite Dancer
After last night's 2-hour season finale, So You Think You Can Dance crowned 19-year-old Joshua Allen as America's Favorite Dancer. Allen will receive $250,000 as well as a role in Step Up 3D, produced by guest judge Adam Shankman.
The show began by reuniting the top 20 dancers in a hip-hop routine choreographed by Shane Sparks. Sparks was noticeably absent from the show this season as he was working on MTV's America's Best Dance Crew.
Finalist Courtney Galiano was dubbed the underdog early in the competition, and saw herself to be the first finalist of the night to be eliminated. The next contestant eliminated was Katee Shean, though Dance host Cat Deeley informed her that she wasn't going away empty handed. For being placed as the top female of the competition, Shean will receive $50,000. The final two contestants were Joshua Allen, and Stephen "Twitch" Boss. Both men were early favorites, and both are hip-hop dancers with very little training.
Highlights of the finale included a performance by Cirque du Soleil, as well as a tap routine by judge Nigel Lythgoe, and a performance that teamed up season two contestant Dmitri Chaplin with ballroom expert and resident judge Mary Murphy.
