Jolie to Star in "Edwin A. Salt"
Angelina Jolie replaces Tom Cruise in "Edwin A. Salt"; Columbia Pictures to redraft film.
According to Fox News, Columbia Pictures is redrafting their high-stakes spy thriller, Edwin A. Salt to star Angelina Jolie instead of Tom Cruise.
The deal is not sealed yet; however, according to the Hollywood trade publication, Variety, Jolie is to play a CIA operative who was accused by a traitor of being a Russian spy. Jolie is forced to escape imprisonment until she can prove her innocence, reports Fox News.
Cruise had been contemplating the project for some time.
Jolie was pleased with Columbia's decision to rewrite the film.
According to Fox News's FOX411 column last month, Cruise was asking for too much money, resulting in his final decision not to star in Edwin A. Salt.
