Shelley Malil Arrested for Stabbing Ex-Girlfriend 20 Times

According to E! Online, comedian and actor Shelley Malil has been arrested by local authorities on suspicion of attempted murder and burglary. Malil is wanted for allegedly brutally stabbing one of his ex-girlfriends 20 times and escaping the scene.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Sunday at his ex-girlfriend's residence in San Marcos. The San Diego Sheriff's Department arrived at the scene momentarily after receiving reports of hearing glass shattering and a woman shouting. According to authorities, Malil and the victim had recently ended an intimate relationship.

Officials told KNSD-TV that when Malil arrived at her home she was in the backyard with an unknown man. Malil instantly grabbed a knife and began stabbing and chasing her through the home. Her male acquaintance attempted to rescue her, but was stabbed in the hand.

According to neighbors, the victim has two children; both were home as the incident took place.

Neighbor Charleton Lee rushed to her side and attempted to stop the bleeding until authorities arrived.

Malil was arrested as he got off a train in Oceanside, California, at approximately 6 p.m. Monday.

He had taken the train from Los Angeles where he met with his attorney, who along with his family and friends encouraged Malil to turn himself in to local police.

The woman, who authorities have not yet identified, was taken to Palomar Hospital in Escondido, California, and is listed in critical condition. Hospital officials say she is expected to survive the attack.

Malil was taken to the San Diego County Detention Center and has not issued a statement regarding recent events.

Malil, age 43, is best known for his performance in The 40 Year Old Virgin, and he has appeared on such TV shows as JAG and NYPD Blue.
