Jolie Never "Replaced" Cruise in New Film
Angelina Jolie was never hired as a "replacement" for Tom Cruise in the upcoming spy thriller, Edwin A. Salt, as has been widely reported, MSNBC reveals.
A source close to the film and its production has stated that while the studio was hoping that Cruise would sign onto the movie and pursued him for several months, he eventually passed on the role. As a result, the source claims that Angelina Jolie was hired after Cruise had already said no to the job-he never accepted the role and was then replaced, as was claimed by a number of news outlets.
"This story about Angelina Jolie taking over is completely false . . . this started with an inaccurate report months ago that said [Cruise] was taking the role," the source claims. The source also adds that, "They courted him [Cruise] for almost a year for this movie. He considered it but passed."
So since passing on this role, what is next for the movie star? The source says that an announcement will be made very soon about Cruise's next project and what his plans for the future are. "He's been offered many roles in the past few months. We're sure to see news about the next project soon."
