DMX Arrested, Again
DMX failed to appear at Maricopa County Superior Court Tuesday, and was consequently arrested, reported BBC News. The rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was apprehended outside a Wal-Mart in North Miami Beach, and faces charges for the possession of marijuana as well as drug paraphernalia.
According to BBC News, Charles Kozelka, the rapper's lawyer, said that on the day of the scheduled court appearance, his client was checked into a Miami hospital, and had decided to admit himself into a rehabilitation facility.
But this was not DMX's first run-in with the law. The rapper also faces several other charges in Arizona, including animal cruelty and identity theft.
In 2006, the rapper spent over two months in Rikers Island Prison, New York, after crashing his car into a JFK airport gate and then claiming to be a federal agent.
In May, police raided Simmons's Cave Creek home in Arizona, only to discover illegal drugs, weapons and evidence of animal cruelty. According to BBC News, dog carcasses were allegedly found too.
Then, early last month, he was taken into custody after missing a court date and driving a vehicle without a license.
And finally, three weeks ago, when the rapper actually did make it to the courthouse, he faced two theft charges, to which he pleaded not guilty. One of the charges originated from the Mayo Clinic in Arizona, where Simmons allegedly gave a false name in order to sidestep a hospital bill.
DMX has sold over 20 million records to date, and starred in films such as Exit Wounds and Cradle 2 the Grave.
