“Rambo” and “Rocky” star Sylvester Stallone has signed a deal estimated to be worth $1 million to advertise the vodka brand, “Russian Ice.”
According to Reuters, actor Sylvester Stallone announced on Friday that he has signed a one-year contract with Russian vodka producer, Synergy.
Starting September 1, Stallone will appear in television and newspaper advertisements for the vodka brand, “Russian Ice.” The deal has been valued at $1 million.
Stallone will advertise the product under the slogan, “There is a bit of Russian in all of us.”
In a statement referring to the actor’s great-grandmother, Synergy said, “The advertising campaign concept was based on the fact that the actor has Russian roots.” Rosa Rabinovich, Stallone’s great-grandmother, is from the Ukrainian town of Odessa.
Stallone is best known for characters such as John Rambo, a mercenary who slays numerous Soviet troops in Afghanistan, and Rocky Balboa, a boxer who humiliated Soviet boxer Ivan Drago.
During the reign of the U.S.S.R., the Rambo and Rocky movies were banned in the Soviet Union, but were hot property in the country's underground VHS market.
