Yikes! Britney at the VMA's . . . Again

At last year's MTV Video Music Awards, Britney Spears totally screwed up. Her botched performance of "Gimme More" was a good prophetic indicator of how the rest of her disastrous year would pan out. In an article for Reuters, Britney's appearance was described as "lumbering around on stage in an ill-fitting black bikini as she lip-synced her way through the dance number." Yet MTV announced today that Britney had received three nominations in the 2008 awards ceremony, which the L.A. Times reported was more than any other nominee. She has been selected in the categories of Best Video of the Year, Best Female, and Best Pop Video. That brings the drama-ridden pop star to 19 nominations in her short career; she has never won an award. Whether Britney will perform after her 2007 failure remains to be seen, People Magazine reported, but her appearance in a television ad for the VMAs has suggested the possibility. Britney's notoriety at the VMAs did not begin in 2007; she has startled and worried viewers a number of times over the years. Among Britney's most memorable moments, the L.A. Times listed her 2001 dance with a real, live, and massive snake, and her unexpected on-stage kiss with Madonna in 2003. Recent news tells us that after a lot of personal turmoil, Britney Spears is finally on the road to recovery. Hopefully her track record at the VMAs will not be predictive of a tumble off the bandwagon.
