Fox Admits to, Apologizes for Fake News Story
The Fox News Network, often criticized for its right-wing slant, apologizedtoday for posting an article "written in jest" that included fake quotesattributed to Democratic Presidential hopeful, John Kerry, on their website.
The article was written by Carl Cameron, a Fox news reporter since 1996, and wasnever intended for posting. Fox spokesman Paul Schur explained to theAssociated Press, "Carl made a stupid mistake which he regrets, he has beenreprimanded for his lapse in judgment. It was a poor attempt at humor."
The article, was written in the format of a real news story, but includedfabricated quotes attributed to John Kerry. His story read in part: "'Didn'tmy nails and cuticles look great? What a good debate!' Kerry said Friday...Women should like me! I do manicures,' Kerry said." Cameron also referredto Kerry as a "metrosexual."
The error was caught quickly and Fox has apologized to the Kerry camp and thepublic for the error. When asked about the incident, Kerry spokesman DavidWade said, "America would be stronger if only George Bush could admit hismistakes as easily."
