No Plans to Make Latest Bond Novel into Film

Eon Productions announced it has no plans to make a film out of the latest James Bond novel, "Devil May Care."

Filmmakers say that there are currently no plans to make the latest James Bond novel, Devil May Care, into a movie, the BBC reports.

Producer Barbara Broccoli, of Eon Productions, informed Variety magazine that the company "loved" Birdsong author Sebastian Faulks' novel.

She added, "Because it is set in the 1960s, we haven't considered making it in the near future."

The book, published in May to highlight the centenary of the birth of Bond creator Ian Fleming, received rave reviews.

A spokeswoman for Eon stated that it had not ruled out a future Devil May Care film.

Previously, Faulks said Eon liked the book but that it was their decision whether to make it into a film.

Faulks, who is best known for historic novels including Charlotte Gray, was chosen by Fleming's estate to write the centenary novel.

Faulks researched Fleming's style by reading all the original Bond stories in order to capture it.

Devil May Care became Penguin's fastest-selling hardback fiction title, selling 44,093 copies in its first four days of publication. Comparatively, previous Penguin best sellers by Tom Clancy and Nick Hornby have sold only about 11,500 copies in their first four days.
