23-Aug-2008
Written by: Dean Stattmann
If winning eight gold medals isn’t reason enough to write a book, what is?
Michael Phelps, the half-man half-dolphin Olympic swimmer who took home eight gold medals this summer, is scheduled to begin writing a book.
According to the New York Times, Phelps has agreed to pen Built to Succeed, a memoir that will finally provide readers with an insight into the life of the Olympic champion. According to a statement from publisher Free Press on Friday, the book “will reveal the secrets of his success, taking us behind the scenes of his approach to training, competition and winning.”
The book, set to publish in December, will center on the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and the American athlete’s incredible performance there. In Built to Succeed, Phelps will also write about his personal life, his experience of growing up with a single mother and his diagnosis of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.
The book deal’s financial terms have yet to be disclosed.
