U.S. Falls to Brazil in Volleyball Gold Medal Game
23-Aug-2008
Written by: E. Van Dril

The Brazilian team atoned for their soccer team’s stunning loss to the American women.

Brazil's women's volleyball team ruthlessly ended the surprising American women's team run, 3-1 Saturday, to win the gold.

It was the country's first win in women's beach volleyball, and it was impressive.

The sets broke down to 25-18, 18-25, 25-13, 25-21, and marred the return to the hometown of the U.S. coach, Jenny Lang Ping. Lang was the captain of the 1984 Chinese team who won the gold medal for China in Los Angeles. They, like Brazil did Saturday, beat the United States in their final match.

"We have nothing to be disappointed for," U.S. outsider-hitter Logan Tom said. "You see tears; they're tears of happiness, though. We came a long way this tournament."

China beat Cuba 3-1 earlier in the day to take the bronze and inch closer to the United States in the total medal count.
