Spain’s Calderon Will Likely Miss Tonight’s Gold Medal Game
23-Aug-2008
Written by: E. Van Dril
The American team’s chances just went up a great deal with Spain losing their best point guard.
Spain will likely be without Jose Calderon, their point guard, in tonight's gold-medal basketball game against the United States. This is according to ESPN.com's Chris Sheridan.
The reason is that an MRI conducted Saturday revealed that the Toronto Raptors guard has a slight tear of the adductor muscle in his right thigh. And, as happens in many cases, the more he plays on the injury, the worse it is expected to get.
Typically, an NBA player would be sidelined for 7-10 days with this type of injury, which means that it isn't a big deal.
It also means that, with the constant pressure on the ball that the United States' Olympic team provides, the Spanish team is in deep trouble with arguably their best ball handler out.
The game airs tonight, at 2:30 ET.
