Melissa Etheridge Diagnosed With Cancer
Singer Melissa Etheridge announced Thursday that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
According to a statement on the singer's official website, the cancer was detected early. While Etheridge will undergo surgery, she is expected to make a full recovery.
"I am fortunate to be under a wonderful doctor's care and thankful that this was caught early," she says in the statement. "I am looking forward to a quick and full recovery."
As a result of her illness, the rocker has been forced to cancel her remaining tour dates. According to the website, fans seeking ticket refunds may do so at the point of purchase.
Etheridge rose to stardom in the early nineties with her single "Come to My Window," and has been doing double duty as a rock star and gay rights activist since. Her latest album, "Lucky," was released in February. The singer also has a new sitcom in the works, in which she will play a lesbian raising a daughter with her best friend, a straight man.
