Democratic National Convention Coverage at Record Levels
24-Aug-2008
Written by: Mike Harwood
Newscasters flock to Denver for coverage of Democratic Convention.
The Denver Pepsi Center is busy preparing for the 2008 Democratic National Convention, and so are the national newscasters.
With an interest in the convention being at an all-time high, each of the 24 hour news stations have an unprecedented amount of coverage scheduled in their lineup. According to the Boston Herald, over 20,000 members of the media will be gathered in Colorado to cover the story.
The convention, which runs from Monday through Thursday this week, will hold a crowd of over 75,000 excited Democrats. It will undoubtedly be Rush Limbaugh’s worst nightmare. Presumptive Democratic candidate Barack Obama (whose name still isn’t recognized on my spell check) will become the official Democratic candidate, the keynote speech will be given by Virginia Senatorial candidate Mark Warner and Hillary Clinton will count down the days until 2012 (or possibly 2016).
With all this political excitement, the news channels have sent over prestigious journalists such as Brian Williams, Charles Gibson, Katie Couric and Wolf Blitzer, just to name a few. Luke Russert, son of the late Tim Russert, will also be in Denver to cover political youth subjects for his father’s network, NBC. There may be some lighter coverage too, with The Daily Show with Jon Stewart’s, “Best F#@king News Team Ever.”
Just when you’ve gotten sick and tired of around the clock Olympic coverage, the media gives you a new topic to be sick and tired of.
Talk to other readers about this story.
