One of Giants’ Super Bowl Heroes Out for the Season
24-Aug-2008
Written by: E. Van Dril

Will Michael Strahan return to the Giants for one more season? That’s the question right now.

Osi Umenyiora, who was one of the players who created havoc in the New England Patriots backfield in last February's Super Bowl, will reportedly miss the remainder of the season after suffering a serious knee injury Saturday night.

Specifically, the Pro Bowl defensive end has serious knee ligament damage that will require surgery. This seems to be similar to that ligament damage that the San Diego Chargers' Shawne Merriman has but will attempt to play with to start the season.

Umenyiora's injury is a serious blow to this season's hopes for the Giants, because he often requires double teams from other teams, which frees up other players to get to the quarterback.

Another player who requires double teams is recently-retired Michael Strahan, who is now in the Fox Broadcast team. There's now talk that the Giants are interested in bringing Strahan back for one more year.

But this doesn't seem to be all that likely, given that Strahan is best friends with Umenyiora and has repeatedly said that he doesn't miss football one bit.
