Dancing with the Stars Lineup Includes 82-Year-Old Oscar Winner

ABC announces cast for show’s seventh season.
According to Reuters, ABC has announced its cast for the seventh season of Dancing with the Stars, and among the celebrities is one star with whom many of the show’s younger viewers will not be familiar. At 82, Cloris Leachman will be the most senior contestant yet, 16 years older than George Hamilton, who hopped on stage in 2006. Unlike many of the “stars” who have competed in the series over the last few years, Leachman will not be using her appearance to make a comeback with an American audience. Reuters reported that the actress, who won an Oscar in 1971 for her supporting role in The Last Picture Show, has just completed work on three movies and is in the process of touring in her one-woman, self-titled play. Over the course of her 82 years, Leachman has also been awarded 8 prime-time Emmys, more than any other actress. She rose to fame in the 1970s in the role of Phyllis on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. The International Business Times reported that Leachman’s competition would include soap opera legend Susan Lucci, socialite Kim Kardashian, chef Rocco DiSpirito, singers Tony Braxton and Lance Bass, Olympic volleyball gold medalist Misty-May Treanor and gold medalist sprinter Maurice Green, former NFL player Warren Sapp, TV host Brooke Burke, actor Jeffrey Ross, and Ted McGinley of Married with Children. Finishing off the lineup is Cody Linley of Hannah Montana, who, at 18, is the youngest celebrity contestant yet.
