Britney Won’t “Gimme More”

Spears will not take another shot at VMA comeback.
Britney Spears’s manager confirmed Wednesday that the rehabilitated pop star will not be making a comeback appearance at the 2008 MTV VMAs, according to the BBC.
“Contrary to media reports, Britney was never slated to perform on this year’s VMAs,” said manager Larry Rudolph.
“She’s recording her next album, which is going amazingly well, and her focus remains on the studio.”
Spears drew criticism about her weight and performance after her ill-fated comeback performance at the 2007 VMAs. She was a daily tabloid item in 2007 after shaving her head bald, displaying wild behavior in public and losing custody of her two sons, Jayden and Sean Preston.
Despite 17 nominations over the years, Spears has yet to win a VMA. This year, she is nominated for Best Pop Video, Best Female Video and the coveted Video of the Year for “Piece of Me.”
“Britney Spears made last year's MTV Video Music Awards a memorable one with her performance of ‘Gimme More’ - albeit in ways she may not have intended,” MTV wrote on its Web site when her nominations were announced. “But on Sept. 7, Spears will get a chance at VMA glory.”
Spears is promoting the upcoming awards show in commercial spots with host Russell Brand.
The VMAs will be held in Los Angeles on September 7. Performances include Rihanna, the Jonas Brothers, Lil Wayne and Pink.
