Jonas Brothers Album Drops 72 Percent
27-Aug-2008
Written by: Dean Stattmann
The Jonas Brothers probably expected a little bit more this week.
After touring the country tirelessly, leaving sold-out concerts in their wake, and seeing their latest album shoot to the top of the Billboard Top 10, the Jonas Brothers have finally been administered a healthy dose of reality.
Their album, A Little Bit Longer, which debuted this month under Disney’s Hollywood label, has taken a drastic plunge in its second week on the shelf, with sales dropping an astonishing 72 percent, reported Variety.
The album, which seemed to snatch up the title of third-best opening week sales of 2008 without breaking a sweat, sold a mere 147,000 copies this week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. This figure is dwarfed by the 517,000 copies sold in week one.
Despite these unfavorable numbers, the charts retained their loyalty to the Disney rockers, holding their album tight in the number one spot.
According to Variety, the top debut came from Staind, whose album, The Illusion of Progress (Atlantic), sold 92,000 units, starting the week off at number three. Ice Cube wasn’t as lucky, selling just 72,000 copies of his latest album, Raw Footage (Lench Mob), allowing the rapper to go as far as number five on the chart. This sales figure turned out to be around half of what his last album made in 1996.
