Rapper DMX in Trouble with the Law, Again

Rapper pleaded guilty to drug charges in Florida and now awaits extradition to Arizona for additional charges of animal cruelty and drug possession.

Notorious for his various run-ins with the law, rapper DMX has pleaded guilty to charges in Florida and now awaits extradition to Arizona to face additional charges, the Associated Press reported Thursday.

The rapper pled guilty Wednesday to attempted marijuana and cocaine possession and was sentenced to time served, resulting in no additional jail time in Florida.

Bradford Cohen, DMX’s lawyer, said his client is still in police custody. He is awaiting Arizona authorities who will bring him back to the state to face drug and animal cruelty charges.

DMX was denied bail on the charges in Florida earlier this month due to his outstanding warrant in Arizona. His court date was not scheduled until October, and his lawyer said that if DMX did not plead guilty, he would have had to sit in a Miami jail until his court date.

DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was arrested back in May after two searches of his Arizona home led to the discovery of weapons, drugs, dog carcasses and abused pit bulls.

His lawyers claim that DMX was unable to attend a court hearing in Arizona this month due to hospitalization, but it didn’t keep authorities from issuing a warrant for the star.

DMX was taken into custody outside a Wal-Mart store in north Miami Beach, according to Reuters.
