Artist Sam Taylor-Wood will direct a biopic about the life of John Lennon.

According to the BBC, artist Sam Taylor-Wood will direct a biopic about the life of John Lennon.

The film, entitled Nowhere Boy, will focus on Lennon’s early years and his first steps into celebrity.

Taylor-Wood said, "I knew as I closed the final page that this was the film I had been looking to direct."

She added, "The story spoke to me on so many levels - both personal and artistic."

The film will be shot on location in Liverpool, Lennon's home city, and will examine the influence Lennon’s aunt and mother had on his life.

"The women in John's early life truly shaped who he became, and the strengths and weaknesses of their relationships are central to this film."

Douglas Rae and Robert Bernstein of Ecosse Films will produce the film.

Bernstein said, "I'm truly excited at the prospect of Sam Taylor-Wood bringing her singular artistic vision to the story."

"Combined with the genius of John Lennon, I think that's a very arresting and dynamic combination."

Matt Greenhalgh, who wrote the Joy Division biopic, Control, will write the screenplay.
