Sonic Youth Recording New Album

The band is also close to signing with a new record label.
After Geffen Records released Sonic Youth from their contract following 2006's album, Rather Ripped, the band is experiencing a feeling they haven't had for the past 18 years.
What it's like to truly be an indie band.
That feeling's likely to change, because the band is close to signing with a label.
“There’s one (indie) label we are certainly going to go with at this point,” Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore says to Rolling Stone. “But I don’t think I’m allowed to disclose that right now. I don’t want to risk having a [expletive] storm.”
Moore goes on to tell the music magazine that Sonic Youth is currently in the writing stages for their next album, and they'll get into the studio in November. They are aiming for their new record to be released at some point in the spring of 2009.
“I’ve written a half-dozen song ideas,” Moore says. “I try not to complete them so much. Last time we got together, we were creating sort of new band-zone-vibe sort of things.”
