Stephenie Meyer Not Writing "Midnight Sun"
Fans of Stephenie Meyer's hit, "Twilight" book series are not going to be happy following the author's announcement that she has decided not to write, Midnight Sun, her planned re-telling of the series' first book from teenage vampire Edward's point of view, the L.A. Times reports.
In a statement that was posted on her official Web site on Thursday, the author told readers that she has decided not to continue with her plans to publish Midnight Sun. The novel, which tells the love story of a human teenager named Bella and her vampire lover, Edward, was posted illegally online and distributed without her permission or knowledge.
Meyer wrote, "If I tried to write 'Midnight Sun' now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all of the Cullens would die, which wouldn't dovetail too well with the original story. In any case, I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on 'Midnight Sun,' and so it is on hold indefinitely."
Although Meyer had originally posted only the first chapter of the novel on her Web site, she has decided to post the entire draft, but she acknowledges that it is incomplete and that the "writing is messy and flawed and full of mistakes."
"I rather my fans not read this version," she wrote, "It was only an incomplete draft. . . . But to end the confusion, I've decided to make the draft available. . . . I hope this fragment gives you further insight into Edward's head and adds a new dimension to the Twilight story. That's what inspired me to write it in the first place."
