Stargate Will Continue Its Path
Fans of the series, Stargate, on the Sci Fi channel, are going to be beaming, because MGM Television is going to order a new series called Stargate: Universe. This will be the third Stargate series to come from the longest running original series franchise in the channel's history.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, "The green light comes on the heels of Sci Fi's confirming Thursday that 'Stargate: Atlantis' will not receive a sixth-season order."
The new show will premiere as a two-hour movie next year. Then, it will have a regular hourly timeslot in the summer.
The executive producers of both Stargate: SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis will serve that title with the new program as well.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, "The new show will involve more space-based action than 'SG-1' or 'Atlantis.'" The Sci Fi channel is hopeful that although it is airing the finale of Battlestar Galactica next year, the still present "appetite for space opera" will lead sci fi fans to Universe.
