Big Fat Denial from Spears's Camp

Lynne Spears denies ever sending a present to VP nominee Sarah Palin's pregnant teenage daughter.

Less than a day after a Beverly Hills insider claimed that Lynne and Jamie Lynn Spears sent a baby gift via phone to Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin's 17-year-old and pregnant daughter, Bristol, Lynne Spears has come out vehemently denying ever sending a gift to Palin, according to E! Online.

Lynne's rep issued a statement Thursday saying the rumor was completely untrue.

"I just got off the phone with Lynne. I can tell you that she hasn't sent her [Palin] any gifts, but that she does support Sarah and, of course, can empathize with their situation," said Curt Handling, Spears's publicist at the Thomas Nelson publishing company.

Rumors circulated throughout the blogosphere and entertainment sites Wednesday that Lynne had called a Beverly Hills baby boutique to send a gift to Bristol Palin, who is in a situation similar to Jamie Lynn's, on behalf of the younger Spears. The "insider" said Spears called asking for what they could do for under $100, and ended up spending about $60.

The card, from Jamie Lynn, supposedly read, "Hang in there!!!!!! XOXO."

Jamie Lynn announced last year she was pregnant and gave birth this June to her daughter, Maddie Briann. She is engaged to the baby's father, Casey Aldridge.

Bristol Palin's pregnancy was publicized on Labor Day through John McCain's camp, announcing that the VP nominee's daughter is five months along.
