Pavarotti Tribute Scheduled to Mark One-Year Anniversary
The first anniversary of the death of Luciano Pavarotti will be celebrated around the world with a series of concerts, an exhibit and other events, the late tenor's family announced Friday.
A concert at the Metropolitan Opera House on Sept. 18 will tribute the opera singer, according to the Associated Press. An exhibit of Pavarotti's life will open Oct. 17 in Rome, featuring photographs, films and costumes collected by friends and colleagues.
Another concert is scheduled for Oct. 12 in Petra, Jordan. The conductor who worked with Pavarotti for years, Leone Magiera, is planning a tribute concert for the deceased singer in Paris on Jan. 27.
The events were announced by Pavarotti's widow, Nicoletta Mantovani, and Franco Zeffirelli, a longtime friend of the tenor and an Italian film and opera director, at a culture ministry in Rome.
"Luciano had a great love for life, joy and cheerfulness that we all miss," Mantovani said. "He was able to thrill everyone in the world."
Pavarotti and Mantovani were married in 2003 and have a daughter together. Pavarotti also had three daughters from a previous marriage.
The celebrated singer passed away Sept. 6, 2007 at age 71 from a yearlong battle with cancer.
Pavarotti made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera House in 1968.
