Oprah Not Interested in Palin as Guest
8-Sep-2008
Written by: Marissa Willman
Television talk show host Oprah, who publicly supports Barack Obama, is not interested in having Republican vice presidential pick Sarah Palin as a guest on her show.
It seems everyone wants a piece of the Republican party’s female vice presidential pick. The governor of Alaska is a hot topic in the blogosphere, is dominating tabloid magazine covers and is a constant point of deliberation on talk news. Yes, it seems everyone wants a piece of Sarah Palin – everyone, that is, except for Oprah Winfrey.
Oprah has the power of persuasion on her side. That is, whatever Oprah says is hot is every soccer mom’s next must-have. And what Oprah says is hot right now is Barack Obama. Oprah publicly supports Obama’s bid for candidacy and many have speculated that Obama is now a product of the so-called “Oprah Effect.”
Oprah did say in a statement released to TMZ.com that she would love to have Palin as a guest and thinks she would be a great interview. Oprah added that the interview would just need to wait until the general election is over.
The statement was released after the Drudge Report claimed that Oprah’s staff was pressuring her to hop on the Palin bandwagon with an exclusive interview. Oprah quickly dismissed the rumor.
“There has been absolutely no discussion about having Sarah Palin on my show,” Oprah said. “I made the decision not to use my show as a platform for any of the candidates. I agree that Sarah Palin would make a fantastic interview, and I would love to have her on the show after the campaign is over.”
Obama has been on Oprah twice, according to TMZ. Both appearances were before he announced his bid for the White House.
