MTV 2008 Video Music Awards Full of Speechless Suprises
8-Sep-2008
Written by: Claudine Paul

MTV 2008 VMAs were full of speechless surprises.

The 25th annual MTV Video Music Awards left for some "speechless" moments.

The program started off with a memorable entrance by German rock band Tokio Hotel, who arrived on the very monstrous "Tokio Hotel Truck," blaring one of the band's many top hits, letting everyone know that they had arrived. This was followed by the colossal entry of a circus decorated elephant carrying hip-hop star T-Pain. The award show was hosted by witty, famed Brit celeb Russell Brand, relatively unknown in the U.S., whose relentless comedy covered everything from the Jonas Brother's purity rings to Jordin Sparks and Perez Hilton's ennui. An unexpected mini-skirted Demi Moore was on hand to present the Best Male award of the year.

The program also featured vibrant performances such as the Jonas Brothers surrounded by fans, a disturbingly theatric Rihanna, the unrecognizable Christina Aguilera as techno goddess, a charmed T.I. performance, a Kid Rock and Lil Wayne southern inspired duet, and an emotive Kanye West performing as the closing act.

The biggest surprises of this year's program were the three awards garnered by songstress Britney Spears, following her tumultuous year in the public press, for Best Pop Video, Best Female Video, and coveted Video of the Year Award, leaving Spears herself stunned. Newcomers Tokio Hotel, at a loss for words, walked away with the public voted Best New Artist which they were not expecting to win.

This year's show was held at the Los Angeles Paramount Studios.
