Madonna Dedicates "Like a Virgin" to Pope
Madonna's turbulent relationship with the Catholic Church swayed in a new direction over the weekend when she paid a visit to Rome and dedicating her new song, "Like a Virgin" to the Pope.
Madonna, 50, told 60,000 fans who flocked to the Italian capital as part of her Sticky and Sweet World Tour, "I dedicate this song to the Pope, because I'm a child of God."
"All of you are also children of God," she continued.
The Vatican accused the singer of performing one of the most sacrilegious acts during her 2006 performance at the city's Olympic Stadium when she staged a mock crucifixion.
Madonna, who came from religious roots, has been accused for mixing religion with sexual imagery.
The Vatican has also condemned her 1989 video for the song, "Like A Prayer," which featured burning crosses, statues crying blood and Madonna seducing a black Jesus.
