Lil Wayne Bus Bust
9-Sep-2008
Written by: Dean Stattmann
The rapper encountered “Mrs. Officer” at the worst of times.
Police officer Diane Hornung boarded Lil Wayne’s tour bus after a New York show in July 2007 when she smelled marijuana. Upon further inspection, she found the rapper trying to hide a gun.
In a pre-trial hearing, Hornung told the story of what happened on that day. “I smelled marijuana and I saw someone peeking through the curtain, she said." According to BBC News, after boarding the bus and ordering its 15 passengers to disembark, Hornung moved to the rear of the vehicle, where she discovered a man trying to flush a bag of marijuana down the toilet. After confiscating the drugs, she made her way to the bedroom, where she found Lil Wayne, real name Dwayne Michael, in his underwear, trying to hide a bag.
After the rapper got dressed, she inspected the bag, finding a loaded .9mm handgun.
The rapper, who was not charged with drug possession, pleaded not guilty to the charge of illegal gun possession, and his lawyer, Stacey Richman, is confident that Hornung boarded the bus without probable cause, allowing for the case to be dropped.
Despite this, if Wayne is found guilty for illegal possession of the firearm, he could face up to four years behind bars, reported BBC News.
One month prior to the bust, Lil Wayne’s sixth album, Tha Carter III, sold over a million copies in one week in the United States.
