Dark Knight Plans Re-Release

Second only to Titanic, the summer blockbuster, The Dark Knight, is looking for a January re-release.

According to Reuters, Warner Brothers is planning to re-release the Batman blockbuster, The Dark Knight in January, just in time for Academy Awards voting season.

Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. Domestic Distribution president, acknowledged talks with execs from Imax about releasing the film on giant screens in January, though it is unclear whether it will also be released in conventional theaters.

Oscar buzz surrounded the film even before its release. Its huge commercial and critical success have since stimulated more talk of possible nominations for director Christopher Nolan as well as the producers and cast. One of the most talked about probable nominations is for that of the late Heath Ledger for his portrayal of the Joker.

Officially becoming the second-highest grossing movie of all time, The Dark Knight has grossed over $500 million in the United States, $440 million internationally, and over $50 million through Imax sales. Reuters estimates that, should the film be re-released in January, it would be sure to top the $1 billion mark worldwide.
