New Young Jeezy Album Debuts at No. 1
Rapper Young Jeezy saw his latest album soar to number one this week, despite a drastic drop in record sales across the board.
According to Nielsen Soundscan data, Recession (CTE/Def Jam), Jeezy's second studio album, sold 260,000 copies last week, dwarfing its competitors, which all failed to reach the 100,000 sales mark, reported Variety.
Recession, propelled by "Put On," the first single off the new album, took the digital sales chart by storm, making no stops on the way to the number one spot. The single, featuring Kanye West, will be followed by "Vacation," the next single that has already made its way to airwaves across the country.
Jeezy's first album, The Inspiration, made it to number one in 2006 when it sold 352,000 copies.
Second place went to Block (Interscope), the first release from New Kids on the Block in 14 years. According to Variety, the album sold 95,000 copies while the band's Greatest Hits album, released through Columbia Records, sold 15,000 units, more than doubling its sales from the previous week. The band's latest single, "Summertime," is holding its own, having already sold over 500,000 downloads.
