Ferrera Hates 90210 and The Hills?

America Ferrera finds that teen shows make girls mean.

Ugly Betty star America Ferrera has revealed that she believes teen shows have amplified and begun to encourage the idea of girls acting crudely to one another.

In the October 2008 issue of Seventeen magazine, the cover of which she will be gracing, the actress reveals, “Close, genuine female relationships are not what generally gets depicted in movies and TV shows.” In Ferrera’s opinion, certain shows condition people to be mean. “Like, if you’re watching The Hills or 90210, all the backstabbing shapes the way we act - you go to school and you think your job is to find a sworn enemy and be jealous of each other,” the star explains, referring to shows which are coveted for their drama and cat-fights.

“I mean, I love [Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants costar] Blake Lively; she’s a wonderful friend of mine, but shows like Gossip Girl kind of condition us to be mean,” Ferrera says, according to AceShowBiz. Looking back on her experiences working with other females, she admitted that it was “pretty catty” when it came down to business. Could Ferrera be right?
