Hockey Mom Installed Private Tanning Bed
The election hasn't yet been finalized, but, if the Republicans win, one thing is likely: a tanning bed will be installed into the vice president's house. Though this may sound like an odd piece of equipment for one of the leaders of the country to have in her home, Palin did the same as governor of Alaska. As a former beauty queen, Palin is said to like having a bronzed body, and her penchant didn't hurt anyone as, "She paid for it with her own money," confirms Roger Wetherell, chief communications officer of Alaska's Department of Transportation and Public Facilities.
The fact that Palin paid with her own money is more beneficial than initially realized. Tanning beds can cost $35,000 or more to purchase and install, a price which does not include the extras that may be needed. "I don't think it's normal for people to have a tanning bed in their house," said the manager of Color Me Tan in Fairbanks, Alaska.
While Palin may have a tanning passion, her running mate, John McCain, has anything but. In 1993 and again in 2000, McCain battled skin cancer. To prevent another battle, McCain now takes all precautions against it. "I coat SPF 30 on myself first thing in the morning, and wear long sleeves and a hat whenever I'm in the sun," McCain told Newsweek. Still, the fact is that tanning beds are one of the top causes of skin cancer and the running mates have opposite views on their use.
