Sheen’s Pregnant Wife, Mueller, OK After Emergency Surgery

Charlie Sheen’s pregnant wife, Brooke Mueller, is doing well after undergoing an emergency surgery that was risky for both her and the unborn baby.
Mueller, who is in her first trimester, had been feeling mysterious pains for a month, and was fearful the pains were related to the baby, a source close to the couple told E! Online. The pain became so intense that Mueller was admitted to Cedar-Sinai Medical Center about a week ago.
Doctors determined the source of the pain to be her gallbladder, and decided to perform emergency surgery, E! Online reported.
Dr. Cherlin Johnson, who did not treat Mueller, explained that an infected gallbladder can be life threatening, not just for the baby but also to the mother.
"Any kind of surgery in the first trimester carries a lot of risks given that this is an intensive time of development for the embryo," says Johnson, an emergency medicine physician in Beverly Hills, according to E! Online.
"You try to minimize medication to the mother during that time," she continued. "However, if there is an escalating infection, that could be life threatening to the mother and therefore for the fetus as well."
E! Online reported that Mueller and Sheen's publicist, Stan Rosenfield, confirmed that Mueller was successfully treated at Cedars and discharged late last week, stressing that it had nothing to do with her pregnancy.
Mueller spent five days in the hospital, according to E! Online, and has been recuperating at home for the past four days.
