Spielberg Donates to Defeat
Last week, Brad Pitt donated $100,000 to support legal gay marriage in California, or to defeat the Marriage Protection Act (Proposition 8). Now, Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw have become the latest couple to support the cause by donating the same amount.
On Monday, the couple released a statement that clearly expressed their thoughts about the situation, "By writing discrimination into our state constitution, Proposition 8 seeks to eliminate the right of each and every citizen in our state to marry regardless of sexual orientation. Such discrimination has NO place in California's constitution, or any other."
As it is now, California is only the second state to legalize same-sex marriage. If California is to limit marriage to a union between a man and a woman, that would make Massachusetts the only state left where same-sex marriage is allowed.
