MTV Gets Parents and Teens to Talk About Sex
23-Sep-2008
Written by: E. Van Dril

Dr. Drew’s new series is a go for MTV.

MTV is further moving away from their roots (as, you know, music television) and adding another reality show to their arsenal.

Specifically, MTV has given the green light to a sex-themed series marketed towards parents and their teenagers. This show will be hosted by Dr. Drew Pinski, who is known around the country as a relationship expert.

The show is called Sex...with Mom and Dad, and is part of the ongoing wave in the media (starting, seemingly with Juno and now prevalent with Sarah Palin's pregnant daughter) of attempting to encourage teens to engage in healthy sex.

The show is part of the "It's Your (Sex) Life" campaign, which hopes to educate kids about sex by promoting a myriad of things regarding sex.

For example, Pinsky will attempt to help a teen and their parents get through a problem discussing sex, drugs and their personal relationships. And the show hopes to provide not just help on an individual level, but also on a macro level.

"This is a unique and compelling format from overseas that we redeveloped and adapted for the MTV audience about getting families to talk openly about a taboo topic," MTV Executive VP Tony DiSanto said.

Sex debuts at 7 p.m. ET on Sept. 29. MTV has ordered 20 episodes.
