David Blaine Begins Latest Stunt

The magician will hang upside down for nearly three days over an ice rink in New York.

Illusionist David Blaine began his latest challenge on Monday as he was raised by his heels and left to hang above the Wollmann ice rink in New York City for 60 hours, according to the BBC.

Blaine went ahead with the stunt despite numerous doctors' concerns for Blaine's health. Doctors said that the stress could damage Blaine's internal organs and the rush of blood to the head could lead to blindness.

Blaine said he was "doing alright" on Monday, though he complained that his head felt like it was "about to explode."

Blaine is suspended from a four-story metal frame and can be lowered to speak with fans. He also has use of one of his legs, which he can use to raise his head to a horizontal position, if needed.

Blaine had a catheter inserted and can drink liquids through a straw. Until the end of the stunt late Wednesday, Blaine will not eat solid foods or sleep.

The upside-down suspension is the latest of Blaine's challenging stunts. His previous stunts have included spending 7 days underwater, 44 days in a glass box with food, and 72 hours sheathed in ice.
